A number of uncontrollable and controllable factors are converging on the U.S.
1.) The start of the school year —guaranteed to spread the pandemic in hot zones or recovering areas. Very controllable with virtual learning or in-person/hybrid if the school district is in an area that crushed COVID19.
Dr. Ashish Jha, Director Global Health Institute, Harvard — “Work really, really hard to build up the capacity to do rapid testing. When it becomes available and you have case numbers low in your community, then go to in-person teaching.”
Interview with Dr. Jha.
2.) The start of hurricane season—we can only hope an already COVID19 beleaguered southeast doesn’t get slammed. Uncontrollable.
3.) The start of the flu season—no doubt will stress already stretched healthcare systems in badly affected COVID19 areas. Controllable with a vaccine.
4.) Coronavirus relief bill unemployment benefits have expired. Controllable.
5.) Eviction protections have started to expire—combined with the unemployment benefits expiring and an every shrinking economy, this has the potential to create hundreds of thousands of homeless. Controllable.
6.) COVID19 outbreaks. Controllable. WE CAN ELIMINATE COVID19 IF WE WANT TO.
OUTSIDE OF HURRICANE SEASON, IT APPEARS WE CAN CONTROL NEARLY EVERY ASPECT OF THE LOOMING CRISIS.
SO THE QUESTION WE REALLY NEED TO ASK OURSELVES IS: DO WE WANT TO BE IN THIS SAME MESS THREE MONTHS FROM NOW?
